Heartland Youth Ballet
Continuing the tradition begun in 1996 with a student production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream at The Rose, Robin Welch Dance Arts is forming Heartland Youth Ballet, a new company for young dancers. Its purpose is to provide highly motivated young classical dancers with the technical training, artistic development, and practical experience needed to pursue professional performing careers.
WhyArts?, an organization committed to bringing the arts to individuals of all ages, backgrounds and abilities, will work with the Ballet to present dance workshops and residencies in the Omaha area.
Rachel Vickrey-familiar to the Omaha community as principal dancer with the Omaha Theater Ballet and Sugar Plum Fairy in The Nutcracker- will be co-artistic director with Robin Welch of Heartland Ballet. “Rachel’s experience as a profession dancer for the past 20 years, plus her great enthusiasm and passion, make her well-qualified for this position,” notes Robin Welch. “WhyArts? looks forward to partnering with the Heartland Youth Ballet to bring arts to the organizations with whom we work.”
Heatland Youth Ballet To Join the Regional Ballet Movement
The regional ballet movement began in 1988 to promote the artistic development of regional dance companies throughout the United States. The five regions are; Mid-States, Northeast, Pacific, Southeast, and Southwest.
Every year, member companies share four days of classes, lectures, seminars and social events. Evening performances are held showcasing the member companies and demonstrating the growth they have achieved throughout the year.
The mission of the organization is to advance and foster the growth and education of choreographers, directors, and dance students and companies across the United States and Canada.
Through becoming a part of this organization, Robin Welch Dance Arts is able to offer students -
- master class opportunities with some of the world’s most well-known instructors in jazz, ballet, modern, and pointe
- ballets created on students by our own resident and guest choreographers to be presented at Festivals
- opportunities to meet, take class, share experiences, and learn from other serious dance students from around the U.S. and Canada
This year’s master teachers were Dennis Marshall, David Howard, Chio Yamada, Joe Istre, Marjorie Grundiz, Robert Moore, and Peter Sparling. Check them out through Google!
